Dorothy was born March 19, 1930, in West Winfield, Pa., a daughter of Frank and Victoria Puz. A 1948 graduate of Winfield High School, Dorothy worked in the office for Shenango China, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Good Year Tire, prior to working at the former Krogers Grocery Store in Boardman. Dorothy was a member of the Holy Family Church in Poland. Proud of her Croatian heritage, Dorothy was a member of the Bessemer Croatian Club, SNPJ No. 771, the Croatian Fraternal Unit and the Croatian Mothers Club of Struthers. Her husband, Steven John Helvak, whom she married June 4, 1956, died Sept. 3, 2010. She leaves two daughters, Vicki (John) Ziegler of Grayson, Ga. and Joann (Russell) Thompson of Poland; two sons, Mark (Donna) Helvak of Woodbridge, Va. and John Helvak of Poland; nine grandchildren, Paul Bazzano, Ashley (Stephen) Leslie, Sarah Thompson, Amanda (Andrew) Bero, Richard (Melissa) Thompson, Savanna Ziegler, Stevie Helvak, Mallory Hanley, and Michael Ziegler; and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Levi, and Evan Bero, and Penelope Thompson. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a grandchild, Mitchell Hanley; a brother, Vladimir Puz; and a sister, Freda Ruzzine. A private funeral service will be held today at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Deacon Paul Lisko officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, also in Poland. SKEBO STRUTHERS - Irene B. Skebo, 91, passed away Wednesday morning, May 22, 2019, at her residence in Struthers. Irene was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and Bertha Ritz Latos. A graduate of Chaney High School, Irene worked as a clerk for the Title Department for Mahoning County Clerk of Courts. She retired in 2008 after 24 years of service. Irene was a member Christ Our Savior Parish at Saint Nicholas Church in Struthers. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Robert Skebo, whom she married May 21, 1949, died Oct. 18, 2004. She leaves her children, Ronald S. (Catherine) Skebo of Parma and Eileen (John) Cordova of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; one sister, Clara Hardy of Florida; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by one son, Robert J. Skebo; and one sister, Margaret Renninger. A prayer service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at 9:45 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish at Saint Nicholas Church with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown. Friends will be received Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
